On the quay in IJmuiden, two pink crane booms stand ready. Suspended between them is a cable reel as tall as a three-story building: 10.2 meters in diameter and weighing 92 tons. This is no standard cargo, this is precision work at the highest level.
ECL (Europe Caribbean Line) shipped this impressive subsea cable reel to Georgetown, Guyana. The TCP pipes on board will be used to connect wells deep below the seabed, essential infrastructure for the offshore industry.

The challenge: when every millimeter counts
A cargo of this size leaves no room for error. Loading a 10-meter-high, 92-ton cable reel requires perfect coordination between the office and the quay.
At ECL, lifting plans and weight calculations are meticulously prepared. But it is the captain and crew who bring these plans to life.
